Temperatures top 30 degrees Celsius nationwide including Tokyo

Central Tokyo observed the first “midsummer day” this year on June 12.

There were other places in Japan that had a scorching heat of 35 degrees Celsius or more.

Even though it is before the rainy season in Tokyo, the temperature rose rapidly due to the strong sunlight, and the highest temperature was 30.1 degrees, topping 30 degrees for the first time this year.

The heat was severe throughout the country. Mercuries in Fukushima Prefecture in northeastern Japan exceeded 35 degrees, making it the first sizzling heat in the country this year.

In addition, 34.1 degrees was observed in Katsunuma, Koshu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, central Japan and 33.9 degrees in Toyooka, Hyogo Prefecture, and Maizuru, Kyoto Prefecture in western Japan.

More than 320 locations nationwide exceeded 30 degrees, the largest number this year.

Many places are expected to be sunny until June 14, and the severe heat of around 30 degrees is expected to continue.

People are urged to be careful of heat stroke, such as staying hydrated and using air conditioning.
