Narita Airport operator submits new design
The operator of Narita International Airport submitted plans for the new design to the Japanese Transport Ministry on July 3.
The plan proposed by Narita International Airport Corporation includes the construction of a new terminal that will gradually integrate the existing Terminal 1, 2 and 3.
The proposal also includes shutting down Terminal 1 and Narita Airport station on the Keisei and Japan Railway lines during the integration phase.
It will build a new station that will be connected to the new terminal.
The move comes as the international airport continues to see an uptick in passengers.
Narita Airport plans to build its third runway in 2029, which is expected to significantly raise the facility’s capacity.
The director general of the transport ministry’s Civil Aviation Bureau said that he hopes to work closely together with Narita Airport.
