Emperor meets Japanese nationals based in UK
S/ Usui Masako, Reporter, NNN London / A day after arriving in Britain, the Japanese emperor engaged in activities alone in consideration of the empress's health condition.
On June 23, Emperor Naruhito first stopped by the Japan House, a Japanese cultural facility in London.
Later that day, he met with Japanese nationals active in fields such as the economy, academia and culture while based in the United Kingdom.
He asked them about the impact of events like the coronavirus and Britain's withdrawal from the European Union.
Naruhito also asked Japanese dancer Hirano Ryoichi about his ankle injury and wished him luck in his future endeavors.
Hirano is the second male Japanese principal dancer with the Royal Ballet in London.
The emperor also chatted with British people with ties to Japan.
He thanked a professor who was at Oxford University when Naruhito studied there.
