The national shopping chain AEON is planning to designate all 142 shopping malls as “cooling shelters.”

“Cooling shelters” are facilities designated by local governments what help to prevent heatstroke and other health concerns.

At the AEON Mall Makuhari New City location, there are children’s water play areas, indoor play areas, and an approximately 2.2 kilometer airconditioned indoor walking course.

As the country’s financial assistance for electric bills is coming to an end, AEON is hoping that the customer’s extended time at the airconditioned mall will lead to an increase in profit.
