Troops jump from sky in first parachute training of 2025
Ground Self-Defense Force members jumped from aircraft in the sky during their first parachute training of 2025 on January 12.
The GSDF parachute unit's annual New Year's jump event took place at Narashino Training Area in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo.
This year's drill was held based on the scenario of defending remote islands from foreign invasion.
Members of the 1st Airborne Brigade jumped one after another from helicopters and transport planes.
Jump practice training at an 11-meter-high building also took place, with the participation of Defense Minister Nakatani Gen, a lawmaker and former member of the Self-Defense Forces.
S/ Nakatani Gen, Defense Minister / Defense Minister Nakatani Gen. I will jump. SDF, let's do it in 2025. Ranger!
About 2,200 soldiers took part in the drills, including around 200 from a record-high 11 countries including the United States and Britain.
The SDF hopes to reinforce coordination with allies and like-minded countries through training events like this.
