Kyoto town resumes fireworks 11 years after explosion accident

A town in Kyoto Prefecture resumed the local firework festival on August 11 for the first time in 11 years.

A gasoline tank exploded during the fireworks show in 2013 and resulted in 3 dead and 54 injured.

Large scale fireworks shows were not held in the town for 11 years afterwards.

This year, organizers limited the area for stands and only allowed charcoal and induction heat sources.

Organizers prioritized safety and plan to increase the scale of the festival slowly.
