Typhoon Kong-rey approaches Okinawa

The very powerful Typhoon Kong-rey, also known as Typhoon No. 21 in Japan, is approaching the Sakishima Islands in Okinawa Prefecture, southwestern Japan.

It is forecasted to pass over Taiwan on the night of October 31.

After passing over the island, it is expected to change course to the east and head towards the East China Sea.

It is expected to downgrade to an extratropical cyclone in the East China Sea on November 2.

Wave heights and wind speeds are expected to reach 10 meters and 35 meters respectively in the Sakishima Islands on October 31, with very heavy rainfall expected in some areas.

Kong-rey’s moist air may cause the autumn rain front to become more active in western and eastern Japan, resulting in heavy rainfall on November 1 and 2.
