American teen tourist implicated in additional arson case in Tokyo
An 18-year-old American tourist who was arrested on suspicion of arson in October was served an additional arrest warrant for another case of suspicious fire in Tokyo.
The teenager was initially arrested the day before he was scheduled to return home on suspicion of setting fire to a trash collection container outside of an apartment building in Chuo Ward on October 20.
Tokyo police said that this time the teenager was believed to have set fire to a plastic trash can placed by a restaurant, causing part of the building to burn late at night on October 21.
The restaurant fire happened only 500 meters away from the apartment building container fire.
Police said the teenager who came to Japan with his family told investigators that he thinks there is a possibility he started the fire.
The additional charge comes as Tokyo police investigate the two cases and four other fires of suspicious origin that occurred in a 2-kilometer range around Chuo and Sumida wards.
