Japans first Level 4 self-driving bus begins operation

A Level 4 self-driving bus began operation in a commercial complex near Haneda Airport in Tokyo on July 18.
A departure ceremony was held at the large-scale facility that includes business offices and offers shopping, dining and Japanese culture experiences.
A Level 4 autonomous vehicle can drive without a driver on predetermined roads under certain conditions.
For the time being, staff will be aboard the bus in case of emergencies.
Operators intend to transition to remote support where one staff member will be able to monitor multiple self-driving vehicles.
They express hope that the self-driving bus system will help alleviate the shortage of drivers in Japan.
