Japan emperor meets Turkmenistan president at Imperial Palace

Emperor Naruhito met with Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on April 15.

Berdimuhamedov attended Turkmenistan's national day event at the Osaka Expo in western Japan the previous day.

Officials said the emperor asked his guest about his experience in Osaka, and the president said he introduced his country's culture and goods.

Naruhito thanked Turkmenistan for being one of the first countries to indicate intention to take part in the 2025 World Exposition and funding the construction of its own pavilion.

The emperor also reminisced about his visit to the 1970 World Expo, also held in Osaka Prefecture, and said such events are a good opportunity for children to learn about the various countries around the world.

This year's Osaka Expo opened on April 13 and runs for six months, with 158 countries and regions taking part.

Turkmenistan was the first country to celebrate national day at the fair.
