Takanawa Gateway City to open as new urban center in Tokyo
Takanawa Gateway City is set to open partially on March 27 in Tokyo as one of the largest urban centers in Japan.
East Japan Railway is developing the area that will encompass five buildings.
In the first phase, two of the buildings that house coffee shops and offices will begin operations.
There are robots that can deliver drinks and other orders and autonomous vehicles that people can ride on.
The area is located by Takanawa Gateway Station, the newest stop on the JR Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku lines.
A new discount service using a smartphone app linked to JR East's Suica electronic money card will also begin.

A second set of ticket gates at Takanawa Gateway Station has also been completed to coincide with the town opening.
The rest of the buildings are scheduled to be completed by spring 2026.
Takanawa Gateway Station was opened in 2020 in between Shinagawa and Tamachi stations.
