Imperial Palace lamps tested before 2-week winter lighting
Officials tested outdoor lamps at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on December 20 before they are lit up during evening hours for two weeks over the year-end and New Year period.
This winter's light up event will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. from December 23 to January 5.
About 60 LED lights at seven locations on palace grounds, including the Nijubashi Bridge at the main gate, will be turned on during those hours.
The winter lighting event began in 2012.
According to the Imperial Household Agency, it is conducted to make the palace appear harmonious with the seasonal illuminations in surrounding areas.
