Nobel peace prize laureate calls for nuclear abolition in press conference
S/ Tanaka Terumi, Co-chairperson, Nihon Hidankyo:
It is extremely regrettable for us (hibakusha) to see that the time has come when people talk casually about the use of nuclear weapons.
Nihon Hidankyo Co-chair Tanaka Terumi expressed his desire to abolish nuclear weapons at a press conference on December 9.
Tanaka will deliver a speech on behalf of Hidankyo at the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony in Oslo, Norway, on December 10.
He prepared his speech and rehearsed it at the venue on December 9.
S/ Gokan Shunichi, NNN Correspondent:
An exhibition to commemorate the awarding of Hidankyo displays not only pictures drawn by atomic bomb survivors,
but also an object created by architect Kuma Kengo using Hiroshima Prefecture’s cedar.
An exhibition titled "A Message to Humanity" will also be held, showing photos of hibakusha and
the animation "Barefoot Gen" along with pictures painted by hibakusha.
