Sanja Matsuri in Tokyo's Asakusa concludes with Sunday climax
Sanja Matsuri, a summer festival held at Asakusa Shrine in Tokyo for the prosperity of the local community, took place for three days through May 19.
The main event in which three giant mikoshi, or portable shrines, are taken out on the streets by local residents was held from 6:30 a.m. on the final day.
S/ Local woman: It’s great! Our summer has arrived.
S/ Local man: It always rains during the festival,
but this time it didn’t rain for three days,
so we had a good procession.
The mikoshi were paraded through the streets of Asakusa all day and returned to Asakusa Shrine around 8 p.m.
