Rescue efforts continue after truck falls into massive sinkhole
Rescue efforts for a driver continued after a truck fell into a 10-meter-deep sinkhole that appeared on a road in Saitama Prefecture on January 28.
The pavement gave way, opening up to a 5-meter-wide-hole before 10AM.
According to officials, they have been able to communicate with the driver of the 2-ton truck that fell into the hole.
Two rescue workers suffered minor injuries from collapsed sediment and were taken to hospital.
Sewer workers said that the amount of water in the sewer pipe that runs about 10 meters underground at the intersection has decreased since the accident.
They said that sediment might have flowed into the sewer pipe, forming the sinkhole.
Police are investigating the cause of the incident.
