Major convenience chain Lawson plans to integrate AI camera to enhance shopping experience
Lawson, one of Japan’s top convenience store companies, announced plans to use KDDI technology to integrate AI cameras into the shopping experience on September 18.
S/ Reporter/ AI cameras detect movement towards the shelf and display recommended products according to the customer’s movements.
AI cameras are set up across the store to determine the age and gender of the customer. The system will display recommended products on the digital advertisement screens.
KDDI Ponta or auPAY users will receive personalized product advertisements based on their user information if they stand idle for a while.
Customers can use an app on their smartphones to scan barcodes and the app will suggest recommended products or display a coupon.
Lawson and KDDI will conduct a proof-of-concept experiment at a new store in Tokyo next spring, aiming to expand to other locations.
