Japanese companies suspend commercials on scandal-hit Fuji TV

Multiple Japanese companies have suspended commercials on Fuji Television Network following a scandal involving prominent TV presenter Nakai Masahiro and a woman.

The move comes as Nakai published an apology on his website, confirming that he had “troubles” with a person and paid settlement money, after a weekly magazine broke the news.

Seven & i Holdings made the decision to replace their commercials on Fuji TV since January 20 afternoon based on recent media reports.

McDonald’s Japan has proceeded with replacing their commercials with those of Advertising Council Japan since January 20.

Kao, a major hygiene and beauty products company, replaced all commercials on Fuji TV with AC Japan beginning January 18.

Toyota Motor, NTT East, and Aflac have also replaced their commercials.

According to sources, Nippon Life Insurance has replaced commercials on 3 of Fuji TV’s programs since January 19.

Dai-ichi Life Insurance and Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance have suspended commercials on sponsored Fuji TV programs for the time being.

Effects of the scandal continue to spread through various industries as investigations continue.
