Emperor and Empress to make state visit to UK

Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako wil make a state visit to the United Kingdom in June.
The Japanese government decided on their visit at a cabinet meeting on June 4.
The imperial couple will depart on June 22 and stay in London for eight days.They will return to Japan on June 29.


The international visit was initially scheduled for spring 2020, but had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako plan to attend a welcoming ceremony at Buckingham Palace with King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

 

They are also scheduled to lay flowers at the grave of the Unknown Warrior.The emperor and empress will also visit Oxford, where they studied.


Emperor Naruhito is slated to visit Windsor Castle on his own to lay flowers at the grave of the late Queen Elizabeth II and her husband.

 

The visit will be the imperial couple's second overseas state visit since Emperor Naruhito's enthronement in 2019.
