Supermarket Aeon to introduce electronic receipts

Japanese retail giant Aeon will gradually introduce electronic receipts starting from June 21.

Shoppers can download a special app and show it at checkout to receive an electronic receipt on the app.

Users can check the past transactions including the date and purchased items on their phone.

Aeon estimates that 690 tons of carbon dioxide can be reduced annually if 10 percent of the shoppers at 4,000 stores opt for these e-receipts.
