Emperor and Empress attend 80th Japan Art Academy Prize ceremony
Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended the 80th Japan Art Academy Prize ceremony on June 10.
This year’s Japan Art Academy Prize was awarded to nine individuals, including architect Kuma Kengo and novelist Kirino Natsuo. The emperor applauded to honor the recipients.
The emperor commented on the efforts of cultural preservation and difficulties of the coronavirus on the arts.
Emperor Naruhito: I sincerely hope that arts and culture will continue to play an important role in enabling people to lead enriching lives and in building a vibrant society.
The emperor commented on the signature woodwork of Kuma’s architecture, asking when ideas in a project come to life.
