BOJ governor comments on timing of interest rates hike

S/ Ueda Kazuo, Governor of Bank of Japan: In a sense, there are many factors by which we want to determine variables, including the U.S. economy. Instead of waiting for all the variables and implementing our policies, we will review them at each meeting and take appropriate policies in response to them.

In his remarks, BOJ Governor Ueda emphasized that the bank will consider whether or not to raise interest rates at each policy meeting including the next one in December.

He said there is no need to wait until next January, when the Trump administration will take office to assess the administration policies.

As for the domestic economy, Ueda said the data are gradually moving in a better direction.

The BOJ governor expressed his awareness that progress is being made toward the sustainable and stable achievement of the 2 percent price target.
