Typhoon Shanshan causes bullet train and flight cancellations on August 30

Typhoon Shanshan, called Typhoon No. 10 in Japan, has prompted public transportation operators to cancel or suspend services involving affected regions in western Japan on August 30.

Central Japan Railway decided to suspend operation of the Tokaido Shinkansen line connecting Tokyo and Shin-Osaka stations starting with the first bullet train of the day.

The decision came as there was forecast for heavy rain and strong winds over a wide range of areas in the country.

West Japan Railway will suspend services all day between Hiroshima and Hakata stations on the Sanyo Shinkansen line.

The line extends westward from where the Tokaido bullet train line stops at Shin-Osaka to Hakata in Fukuoka in the southwest.

Kyushu Railway will suspend all bullet train operations on the Kyushu Shinkansen line all day.

As for flight services, All Nippon Airways has decided to cancel 346 flights connecting with airports in the Kyushu, Chugoku, Kansai and other regions on August 30.

Japan Airlines has decided to cancel a total of 287 flights, mainly those scheduled to depart from or arrive in Kyushu.
