Toyota to launch community near Mt. Fuji to test newest techs

Toyota Motor announced on January 6 that it will launch a community near Mount Fuji for testing autonomous driving and other technologies as early as this autumn.

The car maker has been developing its “Woven City” concept since 2020.

Toyota chairman Toyoda Akio said that its employees will start living in Woven City located in the city of Susono in Shizuoka Prefecture as early as autumn 2025.

Demonstration of a 50,000-square-meter pollen-free space by Japanese air conditioner manufacturer Daikin and a data-based education style by Japan’s leading remote classroom operator will be conducted in Woven City.

Toyota’s Woven City will be open to public residents by fiscal 2026.

The city aims to have a population of 2,000 in the future.
