State funeral held for former US President Jimmy Carter

A state funeral for former US President Jimmy Carter took place in Washington on January 9.

Carter passed away on December 29 at age 100, the longest-lived for a US president.

He worked on resolving international conflicts and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for such efforts.

Five US presidents of the past, present and future attended the funeral.

President-elect Donald Trump was seen chatting with Barack Obama.

The others were incumbent Joe Biden, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

S/ Joe Biden, US President / Jimmy Carter's friendship taught me, and through his life, taught me that strength of character is more than title or the power we hold.

From Japan, former Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide attended as a special envoy of Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru.

After the event, Suga told reporters that Carter's activities not only during his presidency but throughout his lifetime for the development of the United States and the world were remarkable and that the solemn state funeral was befitting his achievements.

Carter served as the 39th US president from 1977 to 1981.
