Japan "positive" about Trump's proposed tariff pause
Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi Yoshimasa / We have explained our concerns at various levels and have requested a review of the tariff measures taken. We view the announcement by the U.S. government positively.
The Japanese government spokesperson’s remark came on April 10 after Trump announced a three-month pause on all the reciprocal tariffs.
Hayashi also said that Japan will continue to seek a review of the 25% tariff on auto imports proposed by Trump.
The Japanese government does not believe that the tariff war has been fundamentally resolved, as Trump has said that the tariffs will be suspended only for 90 days.
Government sources say plans are underway for Economic Revitalization Minister Akazawa Ryosei to visit the U.S. in April.
He was tapped to be in charge of tariffs following Trump’s announcement of reciprocal tariffs.
