Record-high 9 candidates run for LDP leadership election
The Liberal Democratic Party’s leadership election, which will effectively determine the next prime minister, was officially announced on September 12. A record-high nine candidates have submitted their applications.
S/ Takaichi Sanae, Minister in charge of Economic Security: With a fresh mindset, I will work tirelessly. I’m very happy that I have joined everyone in praying for victory. I feel blessed.
S/ Kobayashi Takayuki, former Minister in charge of Economic Security: I’m entering this leadership election to win. With that determination in mind, and with a clear vision for Japan’s future,, I intend to fight through this election with all my strength.
S/ Hayashi Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary: There is a mindset called “Furinkazan”-swift as the wind, silent as the forest, fierce as fire, and immovable like a mountain. I believe this represents an unshakable resolve, and I will fight with this mindset.
S/ Koizumi Shinjiro, former Minister of the Environment: I will cherish each day and carefully convey my thoughts one by one. In the end, I will give my all to achieve victory.
S/ Kamikawa Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs: I personally feel a great sense of responsibility and tension, but within that, I am determined to face the future with a strong commitment to doing my best.
S/ Kato Katsunobu, former Chief Cabinet Secretary: Doubling the income of the people is the policy that must be implemented now. I will strongly advocate for this and present a clear path to make it a reality.
S/ Kono Taro, Minister for Digital Transformation: I intend to engage in thorough and rigorous debates so that people will feel confident that the Liberal Democratic Party is indeed the right choice to lead the country. I want this leadership election to inspire that trust.
S/ Ishiba Shigeru, former LDP Secretary-General: We will fight together, not just for the present or for our own benefit, but for a new Japan. Together with all of you and Ishiba Shigeru, we will fight and achieve victory.
S/ Motegi Toshimitsu, LDP Secretay-General: I am committed to revitalizing the economy and boosting the vitality of local regions. To achieve this, I will firmly pursue a zero-tax increase policy and push forward with the reformation of the Japanese archipelago. I strongly intend to advocate for these goals.
