Princess Aiko visits Saga for first solo official duty in regional Japan

Princess Aiko arrived at Saga Airport in southwestern Japan on October 11.

She was greeted by Saga Governor Yamaguchi Yoshinori and others and told them she was a bit nervous about her two-day trip.

Aiko, the only child of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, was on her first solo official duty in regional Japan.

She visited the Saga prefectural government office for talks with the governor.

About 20 local kindergarteners holding the Japanese flag welcomed her in the lobby.

S/ Princess Aiko / What are you doing in the afternoon? You don't know yet?

People flocked to streets near the airport and the prefectural government office to try to catch a glimpse of the princess.

S/ Girl / She was pretty.

S/ Woman / We saw her only momentarily, but I'm glad to be able to see her face.

Princess Aiko was scheduled to watch some competitions at the national sports festival that was underway in the prefecture.
