Cannabis plants found cultivated on top floor of hotel in southwest Japan
Police have confiscated cannabis plants that were being cultivated on the top floor of a hotel in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, southwestern Japan.
In July, they arrested and sent papers to prosecutors on two 43-year-old men on suspicion of growing the cannabis plants.
Police officials said one of the suspects is a company executive who effectively operates the hotel and the other runs a business with ties to the hotel.
They are suspected of growing cannabis plants from about a year ago using the top floor accessible only to hotel employees.
The officials said the two have admitted to growing the plants for personal use.
Investigators seized 113 cannabis plants and about 9 kilograms of dried cannabis plant pieces.
The officials said the dried pieces alone amount to about 45 million yen in street value.
