Bears appear near residential area of Hanamaki in northeastern Japan

Bears appeared near a residential area in Hanamaki, Iwate Prefecture, northeastern Japan.

The footage captured by a member of a local hunting group around 9 a.m. on May 27 shows a bear moving within the bushes at first.

S/ Fujinuma Hirofumi: “Come on, go home. Come on, go back!”

The bear did not move even after the hunter shouted

S/ Fujinuma Hirofumi: “Go back! Go, go! Get back! Go home!”

Then, two small bears appeared from the front of the screen. Perhaps a mother and her cubs, the three bears disappeared into the depths of the forest.

S/ Fujinuma Hirofumi, President of Hanamaki City Hunting Association: “I thought it was strange that she hadn’t returned for a while, so I checked, and there were cubs. She was probably waiting for her cubs to come back.”

The bears, believed to be a parent and cubs, were spotted in a forest near a residential area.

S/ Fujinuma Hirofumi, President of Hanamaki City Hunting Association: “They appear frequently because the mountains are nearby.”

A few hours later, when the news crew went to the location where the bears were spotted, they found bears eating something.It was unclear whether they were the same bears.As of May 28, there were no reports of bear-related incidents.
