Toyota and BMW to jointly create fuel cell system

Toyota Motor and BMW announced on September 5 that they will enhance their partnership including jointly creating a fuel cell system that uses hydrogen to generate electricity.

Production of fuel cell vehicles equipped with this system will begin in 2028, with mass production to follow.

Fuel cell vehicles that use hydrogen are attracting attention in many countries because of their advantages such as no carbon dioxide emissions, long driving range, and short refueling time.

Toyota President Sato Koji said expressed his enthusiasm, saying that Toyota and BMW will accelerate efforts to realize a future where hydrogen energy supports society.

BMW's Chairman of the Board of Management Oliver Zipse added that this marks the beginning of an era in which many people will be looking for fuel cell vehicles.
