Japan-Australia-India-U.S. Foreign Ministers meet to discuss free and open Indo-Pacific

Foreign ministers from Japan, Australia, India, and the United States met in Tokyo on July 29 and confirmed cooperation in strengthening the international order in the oceans.

Kamikawa Yoko, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan: As the international order is being challenged, it is increasingly important that the four countries of Japan, the United States, Australia, and India, which share values such as freedom and democracy, to cooperate together.

The Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting expressed serious concern about the situation in the East and South China Seas, where China is increasing its maritime expansion.

The ministers also confirmed they will cooperate on infrastructure, cybersecurity, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief to provide assistance in the Indo-Pacific region.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken underscored the four countries' joint efforts, saying that by strengthening maritime security, they aim for a safer and more open Indo-Pacific.
