Nighttime street drinking banned in Shibuya Station vicinity starting October 1
Nighttime street drinking was banned in the vicinity of Shibuya Station in Tokyo starting October 1, and the mayor of Shibuya Ward and others called for cooperation on the streets.
The nighttime drinking ban around Shibuya Station had been in place only during Halloween and New Year's countdown, but the ward amended the ordinance in response to a string of problems with drinking and garbage left on the streets.
S/ Hasebe Ken, Shibuya Ward Mayor/ I would like to send a clear message that street drinking in Shibuya is not part of the town's culture.
The prohibited areas have been expanded to include the Shibuya Ward Office and the Shibuya Hikarie area, but no penalties will be imposed on violators just like before.
