Princess Aiko visits mausoleums of Emperor Hirohito and Empress Nagako
Princess Aiko, the only child of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, visited the mausoleums of Emperor Hirohito and Empress Nagako on April 25 for the first time on her own.They are in the musashi imperial graveyyard in Hachioji, Tokyo’s western suburb.
Princess Aiko, dressed in a long gray dress, first visited the musashino mausoleum, where Emperor Hirohito is interred.
She walked along the path with a fan in her hand, and prayed by offering a tamagushi, a sacred tree adorned with sacred paper strips.
The visit was to report her graduation from Gakushuin University and her employment at the Japanese Red Cross Society.
Princess Aiko then visited the musashino higashi mausoleum, where Empress Nagako is interred.
This was her first visit since July 2014, when she visited with her parents to mark her enrollment at Gakushuin Girls' Junior High School.
