Emperor and empress attend international conference on global environment
Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended the opening ceremony of the Global Environmental Action International Conference in Tokyo on October 23.
The emperor gave an address at the event.

The imperial couple listened to the ensuing keynote lectures.
The conference takes place once every two years, with the participation of experts from Japan and abroad to discuss matters related to the global environment.
The topics include ways to realize sustainable development.
The emperor and empress have long shown interest in issues such as water management and climate change.
They have attended the conference since the time they were crown prince and princess.
