Worlds highest observatory telescope site completed
The telescope site for the University of Tokyo's Atacama Observatory Project in Chile have been completed.
The new facility is planned to be used to find the origins of the universe and other research.
Located on the summit of Cerro Chajnantor in northern Chile at an altitude of 5,640 meters, it is the highest astronomical observatory according to Guinness World Records.
The high altitude and dry environment allow the telescopes at the observatory to be less affected by the atmosphere.
This allows for the observation of infrared radiation, distant galaxies, and cosmic dust and gas, which are difficult to observe at other locations.
The University of Tokyo plans to begin full operation of the site next year and aims to make discoveries that will lead to a better understanding of how galaxies are formed.
