Japan crypto exchange DMM Bitcoin to go out of business

DMM Bitcoin, which operates a crypto asset exchange business, announced on December 2 that it has decided to abandon its efforts to rebuild its business following the theft of its bitcoins and will go out of business.

DMM Group’s crypto currency exchange experienced the illegal bitcoin outflow of about 48.2 billion yen in May this year. Since then, its services such as accepting purchase orders have been restricted.

The company said it has determined that the prolonged situation would be detrimental to customer convenience.

The assets entrusted by clients will be transferred to SBI VC Trade, an SBI group company, by around March next year, and the company will go out of business after the procedures are completed.
