Temporary shopping street opens in city affected by Noto quake
A temporary shopping street opened for this first time on August 16 in Nanao, a city affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake in central Japan, while many shops remain closed more than seven months after the devastating quake on January 1.
The newly opened temporary shopping street is located on Ipponsugi Street in Nanao.
The shopping street features four stores, including a restaurant serving food such as seafood bowls, a café, a beauty salon, and stationery shop, all housed in prefabricated buildings.
This pop-up shopping street was established by the local government as a restart for businesses, with rent being free for two years.
Businesses will continue operating while aiming for full reconstruction.

In the future, temporary shopping streets are planned to be established in Suzu and Wajima as well.
