Nihon Hidankyo says 31 delegates to attend Nobel Peace Prize ceremony

A Japanese group representing survivors of the 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki will send 31 delegates to the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony scheduled in December in Norway.

Nihon Hidankyo, also known as the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations, is the recipient of this year's Nobel Peace Prize.

Hidankyo said its three co-chairpersons, 92-year-old Tanaka Terumi, 84-year-old Tanaka Shigemitsu and 82-year-old Mimaki Toshiyuki, are among the attendees.

The group said the delegates also include hibakusha living outside Japan.

They are planning to depart for Oslo from Haneda Airport in Tokyo on December 8, and representatives will hold a press conference the following day.

Tanaka Terumi is scheduled to give a speech at the award ceremony on December 10.

Delegates are also set to give lectures at the University of Oslo and a local high school before returning to Japan on December 13.

Hidankyo said it plans to raise money through crowdfunding to cover travel and accommodation costs.
