Future City pavilion for EXPO 2025 Osaka-Kansai revealed
The first images of the exterior of the Future City pavilion for World Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai have been released.
The large pavilion, which is part of the Expo that begins next April, is 150 meters (492 feet) long, 33 meters (108 feet) wide, and was built facing Osaka Bay.
The origami-styled mesh screen cladding on the outside of the building is expected to protect the building against the summer heat.
After the sun sets, the panels will be lit up with LEDs to create a colorful display of light and shadow.
Inside the pavilion, which is a joint venture between the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition and 12 companies, visitors will be able to experience next-generation technologies and more.
Shiroma Shota, NTV Reporter: It feels like you’re actually touching the jellyfish though shown only on the screen.
One of the technologies on display is an experience where you can feel as if you’re touching a 3D projected image of a living creature using ultrasound technology.
Additional displays include robots for underwater construction that can be operated remotely as a measure against flooding and to solve manpower shortages, and others.
World Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai is scheduled to run from April 13 to October 13, 2025.
