Suspicious object suspends train operations in Kyoto

A suspicious object was found on a local train that arrived at JR Kyoto Station on May 5 and all local lines passing through Kyoto Station were temporarily suspended,

 

S/ Station employee: At platform 3 of Kyoto Station, a suspicious object was found.

 

According to the police, a passenger found a backpack on the luggage rack of a train that arrived at JR Kyoto Station just after 4 p.m.

 

S/ Passenger: We’ve been asked to evacuate the station platform due to a suspicious object. It’s a nuisance.

 

When the station staff checked the backpack, it had a letter on the surface that meant “acid” in Japanese Kanji characters so they called the police.

 

The police rushed to the scene and restricted entry to the station.

 

They later determined that the backpack contained only clothing and posed no danger.

 

 

The backpack was later returned to its owner as lost property.

 

According to JR West, approximately 85,000 people were affected.
