Japanese lawmakers visit China
Japan's ruling and opposition lawmakers separately met with senior officials of the Chinese Communist Party in Beijing on July 22.
Moriyama Hiroshi, chairperson of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's General Council, held talks with Liu Jianchao, head of the Chinese Communist Party's international department.
Officials said Liu told Moriyama that China will proactively consider the resumption by yearend of the bilateral ruling party exchange council which has not met since 2018.
They said Moriyama asked China to lift its import ban on Japanese beef.
Meanwhile, House of Representatives Vice Speaker Kaieda Banri met with Zhao Leji, the third-ranking member of the Chinese Communist Party.
Kaieda is a lawmaker of the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan.
Officials said Kaieda and Zhao agreed to resume exchanges between Japan's lower house and China's National People's Congress.
In light of China's ban on imports of Japanese marine products, Kaieda discussed the issue of treated water release from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea.
Zhao said the Chinese side will wait for a conclusion by experts on the matter.
China has banned the import of all seafood from Japan after the Fukushima water discharge began in August 2023.
