Emperor and Empress visit grave of the Unknown Warrior

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako visited the grave of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey on June 25.

The grave is the resting place of a soldier who lost their life on the battlefield during World War I and has been visited by past emperors who have been state guests.

The Emperor and Empress laid a wreath, then slowly bowed their heads and observed a long moment of silence.

Westminster Abbey has hosted many British royal events, including the state funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II and the coronation of King Charles III.

After being shown around the inside of the Abbey, the Imperial couple signed the guestbook before departing.
