Kairos rocket launch fails again with nozzle issues

S/ Watanabe Mikiya, NNN Reporter / Carrying the thoughts of many people, Kairos 2 has just been launched.

The Kairos 2 rocket developed by Space One lifted off from a private launch site in Wakayama Prefecture in western Japan on December 18.

The company said an abnormality occurred in the nozzle's drive control about 80 seconds after the liftoff, possibly causing the spacecraft to lose balance.

It tried to go ahead with the separation for deploying a satellite but aborted the flight about 3 minutes after launch due to deviation from the planned trajectory.

S/ Spectators / We saw it. It was great. It was amazing. It came shooting out from a mountain ridge with a whoosh.

S/ Reporter / The flight was canceled.

S/ Spectators / What? Now? It looked fine.

S/ Toyoda Masakazu, President, Space One / We do not view this incident as a failure. We believe that this kind of experience and data will serve as a foundation for our next challenge.

Space One had postponed the liftoff of Kairos 2 on December 14 and 15 due to strong winds in the atmosphere.

The company will investigate what went wrong as it begins preparations for launching Kairos 3.
