Princess Kako meets with US cherry blossom queen

Japan's Princess Kako met with the 2024 US cherry blossom queen in Tokyo on June 6.

The meeting took place at the Akasaka Estate where the princess lives.

The US cherry blossom queen is chosen every year from delegates representing US states and territories.

This is the third time for Kako to meet a US cherry blossom queen.

The Japan cherry blossom queen also attended this year’s meeting.

Aides said Kako spent about 20 minutes chatting with her guests in both English and Japanese.

They said the princess appeared to be hoping to reinforce the friendly relations between Japan and the United States through cherry blossoms.

Kako is the second daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito of Akishino and a niece of Emperor Naruhito.
