Police release images of suspect in fatal stabbing at Nagano Station

Three people were stabbed in front of Nagano Station in central Japan at around 8 p.m. on January 22.

Police said that a 49-year-old man who was stabbed in his left side died at a hospital.

They said the two other victims, a man and a woman, sustained injuries that are not life threatening.

The incident occurred outside JR Nagano Station’s Zenkoji Exit.

Nagano was the site of the 1998 Winter Olympic Games and has around 80 ski resorts in the prefecture.

Early on the morning of January 23, the Nagano prefectural police released images of the suspect who was at large.

The suspect is believed to be a man likely in his 40s of slender build with a height of around 165 to 175 centimeters.

He was wearing a jacket, long pants and glasses and had white cloth wrapped around his head.

The police are investigating the case as an indiscriminate attack and seeking information from the public.
