Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko visit Turkish exhibition

Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko visited the Idemitsu Museum of Arts in Tokyo on November 7.

They went to view an exhibition of Japanese and Turkish jewelry and ceramics from the collections of the Topkapi Palace Museum and other such facilities in Turkey.

The exhibition was held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Turkey.

The couple viewed a vessel for holding rose-scented water believed to have been used in a palace of the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

Looking at the jeweled vessel, Crown Prince Fumihito asked how the stones are glued to it.

Crown Princess Kiko commented that there are many different techniques used.

The imperial couple will make an official visit to Turkey for six days from December 3.
