1,000-year-old good luck rice porridge
A shrine in Nagasaki, Japan fed people a traditional New Year lucky meal today (Tuesday).
For over 1,000 years, the shrine has been serving rice porridge to visitors.
The porridge is prepared with seven kinds of herbs.
Custom says that eating this dish on January seventh will purify the body, drive away bad luck and bring good health for the coming year.
In recent times, it’s also a meal that gives tired stomachs a break after the New Year’s indulgences.
The shrine made about 1,000 bowls of porridge, and they were completely gone within one hour.
