Princess Noriko to marry Shinto priest
Japan’s Princess Noriko is getting married.
The lucky man wedding the 25-year-old princess is a priest from one of Japan’s holiest Shinto shrines.
Princess Noriko is a cousin of Japan’s Emperor Akihito.
Her future husband, Kunimaro Senge, is the 40-year-old son of the chief priest of the Izumo grand shrine in western Japan.
The couple announced their engagement to Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko ahead of a press conference.
The two first met seven years ago through their parents.
It will be the first marriage in the imperial family since 2005.
Princess Noriko reportedly said she found Senge to be calm and sincere and hoped to create a happy family with him.
The Shinto priest said he found the Princess to be warm and caring.
The two will wed this autumn at the Izumo shrine.
