Sumo wrestling is a national sport in Japan, and kindergarteners in Ishikawa prefecture are holding their own tournament.

Conceived as a way to get children active during the lazy winter months, the event has been held for forty years.

Twenty-nine kindergarteners took the tourney very seriously, shouting and grunting like the pros.

The contest continues for eleven days.

One student will be crowned yokozuna, or grand champion.
