ANA retires final Boeing 747
People in Japan waved farewell on Monday to the last Boeing 747 in service in the country.
All Nippon Airways is retiring the double-deck, four-engine jumbo jet.
Fans gathered at Haneda International Airport in Tokyo to watch the final takeoff this morning.
The 747 is capable of transporting over 500 people, and has contributed to Japan’s economic development.
Aging planes and poor fuel economy were factors in the retirement decision.
An official farewell ceremony will take place this evening when the plane returns to Haneda.
